I have had my cedar chest since I was 16 years old, and in a little under two months, it will be 37 years old! It’s the only piece of furniture that I have hung onto for so long; and I have moved it with me 10 times across three states. So it was time to give it a new look! 🙂
As you know, I’ve been working on our master bedroom makeover for the last few weeks. And since my chest sits at the foot of our bed, it was screaming for a new color!
A couple of coats of paint, some stenciled coral, and rope handles is just what this chest needed! But let me remind you what it looked like before it came alive! I’m sure in 1979, it was one fine and fancy looking cedar chest. It originally had awful 1970’s brass handles but I had spray painted them a few years ago. Apparently I thought bronzy handles would make it look better.
The chest color is Valspar “Summer Shirtwaist” and the coral is “Kid Gloves” and “Theater Wrap” in their chalky finish paint. The white and blue are the colors that I’m using on the bedroom furniture, and will tie it all together.
I just couldn’t bring myself to put those bronze beauties back on this ray of sunshine and decided that rope handles were exactly what the chest needed. Mr. figured out a way to add the “handles” using the holes that were already drilled for the original handles.
I didn’t add much distressing to the chest. I just highlighted where it was already dinged and banged up. 37 years of wear and tear has taken a toll on it.
And one more before and after! So what do y’all think? I think it’s ready for another 37 years! 🙂
Y’all have a great day!
